Dr. Orhan Nalcioglu, MD has a general research interest in image-based measurement techniques for biomedical research. In the area of aging, he has been working on the development of three-dimensional imaging techniques to quantify brain perfusion using dynamic contrast enhanced MRI and brain function using 3D functional MRI (3D-fMRI).

My specialty is in breast cancer imaging.
is this an important part of breast cancer care?
Breast imaging is very important for breast cancer screening, and for diagnostic purposes. Additionally, imaging is also being used for assessing therapeutic response and to make treatment decisions.
is this different then what might be offered in the community (outside of UC Irvine )?
The hospitals and clinics in the community offer imaging instruments and techniques that are commercially available from the industry. UC Irvine , in addition to offering the same types of techniques as the community hospitals, has the unique advantage of offering clinical trials using new imaging technologies that are not yet commercially available since it usually takes about 5-10 years for such imaging technologies to become commercialized therefore not available at community health care facilities. Thus patients participating in clinical trials using novel UC Irvine developed imaging technologies have the advantage of accessing to such technologies much sooner than the community hospitals.
will my (the patient) experience be like with you?
Patient's experience will depend on the type of imaging trial being conducted. This is clearly described in the IRB approved consent forms.

Currently available imaging studies at the Tu & Yuen Center for Functional Onco-Imaging include: Dynamic Contrast Enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), breast MR spectroscopy, Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT), and Dynamic Contrast Enhanced DOT. For more information, please call Diane Huebner at 949-824-6001.
